Author’s note:
Beckham’s New Home is the true story of a Frenchie who had to have Aortic Valvuloplasty, Balloon Valvotomy.
He is living his life in comfort and joy in sunny South Florida with his forever family, Chrissy and Troy.
This story is for all those, both human and animal, who have climbed the medical mountain and reached the other side.
Beckham is a French Bulldog puppy. He is the cutest in his litter. He has the softest coat and the most
beautiful soulful brown eyes.
But Beckham gets tired very quickly and has a hard time
catching his breath, so he can’t run and play like other puppies. Panting, he walks slowly to a cool patch of
green grass, resting his weary head on his paws.
Covered in grass and twigs, his brothers and sisters roll
and play with each other. Beckham sits
on his green island of grass breathing hard.
He would like to play like his brothers and sisters and
get covered with dirt and grime, but he has to stop and rest a lot.
Walking slowly behind the puppies as they chase each
other, he hangs his head and goes inside to his warm and cozy fur-lined bed panting
hard.
I’m
tired Beckham tells his doggy mommy, his little mouth turned
downward in a frown and his little brown brow furrowed.
It
will be okay, baby Scarlett, his doggy mother says to him as her
soft tongue licks his head, smoothing out his wrinkled forehead and soothing
his sorrows.
Okay
Mama,
Beckham says, his voice filling with happiness.
He cuddles next to his mother’s silky tummy and takes a nap, his little
puppy feet moving as he dreams of running in a field with his siblings all
around him.

Beckham’s Broken
Heart
Beckham is a French Bulldog puppy.
He walks on the cool tiles of his new home,
his forever home, with a new mommy, Chrissy.
I love my new home and my new bed,
he says as he snuggles into the silky cushions of his wicker bed.
Beckham lovingly follows her wherever she
goes. He sits with her on the couch when
she watches television and rides in the basket on the front of her bicycle.
Beckham and Chrissy enjoy days at the beach;
the sand on their feet and the feel of the cold water as it tickles their
toes.
When Chrissy goes for a walk, Beckham pants
as he tries to keep pace with her long strides, but he can’t keep up.
Sitting on the scalding sidewalk to take a
break, Beckham wiggles as the concrete burns his bottom. I am
tired Mommy, he whimpers.
Chrissy bends and sweeps him off the ground
and carries him the rest of the way, humming to her beloved baby and rubbing
his soft fur.
Tears streaming down her face, she promises
to fix Beckham’s broken heart. “Don’t
worry Becks. We are going to get you
fixed up, as good as new.”
